OUR COLLABORATIVE APPROACH TO HEALTH, FUNCTION + SYMMETRY
promoting the natural development potential of healthy human form
Myofunctional Care is a team approach to improving overall body wellness. Following thorough diagnosis of breathing and body conditions, we begin to establish a healthy airway. We may recommend body-work and muscle training in conjunction with medical and dental procedures to idealize oral, facial structural growth, and physiologic function. Myofunctional Treatment along with patients' adoption and maintenance of new personal habits acts as the catalyst for neuromuscular re-education, or re-patterning, of the oral facial muscles. This allows for the improvement of breathing, speaking, eating, sleeping, and overall physical and mental health
signs of myofunctional imbalance(s)
From babies to adults, myofunctional disorders can have significant impact on functional, structural, behavioural alignment, and overall wellness. Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) have multiple causes and may be related to Tethered Oral Tissues (TOT). If left untreated, symptoms related to these conditions will present throughout life. While each situation is unique, TOT and OMDs can contribute to any of the following:
-
Difficulties breastfeeding
-
Gassy, colicky, fussy babies
-
Delayed growth and/or asymmetrical growth and development
-
Delayed speech
-
Dark circles under eyes
-
Prolonged bedwetting
-
Perceived large forehead
-
No spacing between baby teeth
-
Blinking while swallowing, or using head movement to swallow
-
Coated tongue, dry mouth especially upon waking
-
Drooling, food collecting at corners of mouth, “speaking moistly”
-
Habitual mouth breathing, shoulder rolled forward posture
-
Speech impediments
-
Jaw joint pain, worn teeth
-
Crooked teeth, “taller” front lower teeth, narrow jaws, long face
-
Heavy breathing, snoring
THE MIND, BODY, BREATH CONNECTION
The mind, body, and breath are intimately connected to one another. If an imbalance exists within this connection, one's ability to grow, develop, and function with health may become limited. Dr. Hilary Pada had her eyes opened to a pattern of limitations and struggles afflicting patients, and noticed there were common threads within their stories. With more than twenty years of dental experience and knowledge, she has come to understand that a myofunctional approach to health care is where her future purpose lies. Collaboration with a variety of therapists and consultations from her colleagues is redirecting the trajectory of health and the natural potential of wellness for our community of patients.
OUR APPROACH
Patients are our priority. Health, symmetry, and function through collaborative care and research is our strategy. Comprehensive diagnosis and collaboration with colleagues in Osteopathy, Craniosacral Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Lactation Consultancy, Dentistry, and Medicine is our approach.
OUR MISSION
Through dedication to the wellness of our patients and the mind-body-breath connection, CO₂llaborative Care + Research will prevent, diagnose, treat, and research Myofunctional, skeletal, and systemic dysfunction with evidence-based dentistry and integrative oral medicine.
